Westminster High School Homecoming Carnival set for September 27

Westminster High School is putting a fresh spin on tradition this year with a brand-new Homecoming Carnival set for Saturday, September 27, from 12–3 p.m. at the school. The event, designed as a lively alternative to the traditional Homecoming Parade, promises food, fun, games and community spirit for students and families alike.

Costume Parade

  • Students from all schools are invited to dress up as their favorite character from the Wizard of Oz
  • Everyone can show off their looks in the character parade in the parking lot at 1:30

The idea was brought forward by the WHS Student Council, led by Aiden Martin, with support from advisor Jennifer Barnhart. Students envisioned a celebration that keeps the energy and togetherness of the parade while offering something new. This interactive afternoon is open to families and students from across the district.

“This is about bringing people together,” Barnhart said. “Our students are really excited to create something that connects the high school with our community in a fun and welcoming way.”

Planning has quickly gained momentum. Students are planning a costume parade and building carnival-style game booths, while cheerleaders and athletes will host activities to keep children moving and entertained. Guests will receive free tickets for activities, with the option to purchase additional tickets on-site.

Aiden Martin, one of the Student Council members leading the effort says his fellow students are excited. "This is a great alternative to the parade because it's going to be very interactive and is a great chance for the community to interact with students and see all their hard work pay off," he said.

Among the highlights is a "splash tower" similar to a dunk tank where students and faculty will get soaked. In addition, there will be a lot of activities for young children.

Chartwell’s, the district’s food provider will provide classic carnival food, with adults being able to buy food tickets at a nominal fee.

The high school has a week of activities planned around The Wizard of Oz theme leading up to the Homecoming Football Game on Friday, October 3 and the Homecoming dance on Saturday, October 4.

In addition, the annual Powder Puff Football game is Wednesday, October 1 at 6 p.m.
