The Art of Attendance

At Westminster High School (WHS), art teacher Michelle Music is tackling the nationwide attendance epidemic with scrap cardboard and a lot of heart. For the past month, she has spent her mornings walking the halls with handmade, meme-inspired signs to encourage students to get to class.

"Just positive signs that they're wanted here; that we're here for them," Music explained.

Music uses her art background to create a welcoming environment. When students ask why she spends personal time making new signs every day, her answer is simple: "Because you're worth working so hard for. You're worth being consistent and showing up for."

Other WHS teachers are also joining the campaign by creating their own signs. For Music, this grassroots effort proves that accountability is a form of care, inspired by the educators who once did the same for her.

"I hope that kids know that I love them and I care about them," she said. And her daily message to them? "Get to class!"
