When students and staff return to school after Spring Break and log on to the district and school websites, they will be in for a happy surprise.
For the past half year, the Communications Department has been working behind the scenes to replace the district’s current website (Blackboard) with a new program (Finalsite) which will include dynamic, moving graphics and much more. Finalsite purchased Blackboard in 2023, and WPS jumped at the chance to upgrade its site.
“For many parents, their first sense of a school comes from a visit to their website; and it is so important that it be visually interesting and easy to navigate,” said Superintendent Pam Swanson. “First impressions are lasting impressions.”
The current district website has about 13,000 pages which are being migrated to the new program while employees across the district are learning how to manage and edit content.
“It’s a major transformation, and we anticipate there will be some bugs and glitches to be ironed out in the opening weeks," Swanson added. “We plan to encourage feedback from users and want them to offer suggestions for a better experience. It’s going to be a lot of work, but in the end, it will be worth it."
