Congratulations Westminster High School ProStart Students!
On March 14th Westminster High School attended Annual ProStart® Student Invitational & Sysco Denver Hospitality Cup Competition, which was held at the Gaylord Rockies Resort in Denver, and won 3rd place overall for the Hospitality Cup. “ProStart® is a two-year, industry-backed culinary arts and restaurant management program for high school students. ProStart students finish the program ready to join the workforce and make an immediate impact in restaurants and foodservice. Students are closely connected to industry experts through guest speakers, class mentors, tours of local facilities, hosting student competitions, and more – all to ensure real-world experience is brought directly to the classroom.” This annual event showcases more than 250 ProStart® students from over 20 Colorado High schools who demonstrate a mastery of culinary and academic skills. WHS ProStart students competed in two teams, Culinary Team and Management Team. The Culinary Team, who participated in the cooking portion of the competition, menu consisted of Chilled Salmon and Cucumber, Cacao-nib Crusted Bison Ribeye with Gruyere Potatoes and a Vanilla Bean Non Bake Cheesecake with Raspberry Puree. The Management Team, who presented their business proposal idea for a restaurant with a multicultural concept of bowls being the main dish, and each bowl having a different country’s signature food. With the teams combined efforts, they placed 3rd overall attaining the Sysco Denver Hospitality Award!
